Hampshire Kitchen Heroes is an interactive programme for residents across Hampshire, rewarding you for taking steps to reduce your food waste.
Did you know that around 35% of waste collected from households in Hampshire is food waste? This costs the average family £60 a month, as well as being a big driver of climate change. Many of us aren't aware of how much food we're throwing away, as it's very easy for a bit here and a bit there to quickly add up.
That's where Hampshire Kitchen Heroes comes in! There's a food waste warrior in all of us and we want to reward Hampshire residents for all the fantastic things they're doing, whilst sharing a few super tips of our own.
You'll
compete as part of your Borough or District to earn Green Points for your actions. There are a
whole range of food waste saving actions that you can earn Green Points for,
including:
- Measuring how much food you're wasting
- Shopping smart by making lists or meal plans
- Keeping your food fresher for longer at home, or making use of your freezer
- Getting creative with your cooking and making the most of leftovers
Each activity has a full description of what you'll need to
do to earn Green Points - some will require a submission that you can make
through the website or app, whilst others will invite you to report your
actions on a weekly basis.
The more Green Points you earn the greater your chances of winning a prize - it's as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4!
1. Take part in activities
You can take part in a whole range of activities to earn Green Points for yourself and your team. We've grouped these activities into food waste themes, all of which you can get involved in at any time.
Check out each of the activities to see what you have to do - for some you'll need to submit some information or a photo whilst for others you'll be sent a weekly reminder to let us know what you've done. We've included an impact and effort rating so you've got a rough idea of which activities will have the biggest effect on reduce your food waste.
3. Win prizes
There are prizes available for individuals taking part in Hampshire Kitchen Heroes. You’ll get the chance to win one of 1 x £20 vouchers for the top Green Points earner every month.
If you’re a voucher winner you’ll get to choose from Marks & Spencer and Love2Shop vouchers, or a donation to your local food bank.
4. Encourage your neighbours to get involved
You can encourage your friends, family and neighbours to get involved (and earn Green Points for yourself) using our refer a friend tool - all you need is your friend's email address to send them an invite.
Please note: only people who live within Hampshire (excluding Southampton and Portsmouth) can participate in Hampshire Kitchen Heroes.
